I have serious difficulty digesting red meat. Following a dinner including red meat, I used to wake up in the middle of the night with a very painful burning sensation in my esophagus (commonly called 'heartburn'. Now I usually take one betaine/HCL capsule (or sometimes two) during or following a red meat meal, to significantly boost my stomach acid level, and NEVER have the burning sensa ... I was diagnosed with asthma, reflux, and gallstones, and constantly had post-nasal drip, runny nose, and chest congestion. Started taking Betaine HCl and some additional digestive enzymes at every meal and my sinus symptoms disappeared in about 48 hours. Not exaggerating! Now I know that it was not having high enough acidity levels in my stomach that was causing the reflux, and improper digestion ... Show Full Comment

He asked me about stomach problems and I told him I had none, but after testing me he put me on Betaine Hydrochloride and immediately I could feel a difference. So far I have not had any come back. My dentist referred me to a nutritionist when he realized my blood type was A+ and, as a bariatric patient (gastric sleeve) was having a difficult time digesting much needed protein and was also having problems with constipation. Within a day I noticed a difference. No more gurgling or churning in my stomach after my small protein-laden meals. Bowel habits returned to normal within 2 days.

I suffered from acid reflux for years, doctors had always prescribed things like prilosec, nexium, some other kind of proton pump inhibitors. The medications had always helped in the begining but then created extra problems, like the feeling my food wasnt digested...And thats exactly what was happening. By taking proton pump inhibitors your stomachs acid production get shut off, no acid so no acid ... Show Full Comment
