I used a capsule of Goldenseal Root dissolved in purified water as eyedrops for severe allergies. It seems to have cleared my eyes. I also use it for my dog who has a runny eye. Works well.

Young son split big toe open from under nail, over top of toe to bottom. Took goldenseal root, steeped for 15 minutes, cooled long enough to still be very warm, had him soak his foot in it until it was cool. Did this four times a day for five days, then a couple times a day for two more days. Wound closed on its own starting 1 1/2 days after beginning therapy. Never a sign of infection. Couldn' ... Couldn't even tell there had been a wound after two weeks. Have also used goldenseal tea bag, steeped 15 minutes in 3/4 cup water, to heal eye irritation due to allergies. Simply soak a cotton ball for each eye and place them on closed eyes while lying down to rest. Takes away itchiness and redness and swelling. Used this remedy many times for our children before we had health insurance and found it far more effective than many of the doctors' remedies for minor childhood scrapes and scratches.

I use this in place of penicillin and it works for me. I just have to take 4 capsules a day, Spring Valley Goldenseal extract recommends 1 tab a day.
