When I get a headache I chew some willow bark. Since I have plenty in my back yard it is easy to get. It always gets rid of my headache. Also, if the leaves are chewed into a poultice and applied to the bite, they permanently remove the pain of hornet bites. I haven't tried it on other insect bites, but I am sure it would work. Many people I know use this and it is always effective.
